  • Just half an hour or so from Bournemouth, we take some of the quieter roads out into the heart of Dorset. Driving up onto Bulbarrow Hill, on a clear day you will be able to see across Blackmore Vale to North Dorset and Shaftesbury.
  • We then pass Milton Abbey School, on our way to the picturesque thatched village of Milton Abbas, famously moved by Lord Milton, 1st Earl of Dorchester in 1780. We stop here for a stroll through the chocolate box village and pop into Milton Abbey if it is open.
  • Your guide now will take you to a local country pub for lunch (not included), where there are a selection of reasonably priced light lunches and snacks.
  • Heading south we visit Tolpuddle, home of the famous Martyrs; meet under the tree as they did to hear their tale.
  • Visit the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum (free entrance), and learn about the Dorset farm workers who stood together, and paid the price by being transported to Australia. Their actions contributed to the birth of the Trade Union movement in Britain.
  • After leaving Tolpuddle we drive past the watercress beds that sit on the chalk springs that enter the Frome Valley before arriving at the quiet village of Moreton.
  • In Moreton, visit the final resting place of T E Lawrence of Arabia, who lived and died locally at Cloud's Hill.
  • Take a stroll down to the River Frome and watch the fish as they cross the shallows of Longbridge Ford.
  • In Moreton also sits the church of St Nicholas that after taking a direct hit from a WWII bomb was rebuilt with a series of world famous engraved glass windows created by Laurence Whistler.
  • A final Stop at Wool Bridge to see the manor house that featured in a number of Hardy’s novels.

More Information About Joining Our Tours

What travellers are saying about this tour:

We enjoyed the trip immensely. The driver was helpful and very knowledgeable about the area which added to our enjoyment. We would recommend this to all of our friends.

The trip was wonderful; the driver, Richard, was very friendly and knowledgeable; the places we visited were lovely; the scenery was spectacular; even the weather was kind. It was good having only a small number of fellow passengers, as we got to chat at lunch ...

I have already told several of my neighbours (in Southbourne) how much I enjoyed myself.

It is so handy being picked up a short walk from my home ...

I can't wait to book for your Jurassic Coast trip.

We had a great day out with Discover Dorset. We went to so many places which we would have never have discovered on our own. We had fantastic weather which added to the experience and the icing on the cake was our "leader" Richard. He was so keen on his subject of the area and was able to give us plenty of information making it very interesting and never boring. He has a great sense of humour and really made our day exceptional and we hope to join another tour on our next visit. We thoroughly recommended the trip to other guests at our hotel.

What to bring with you:

  • Sensible outdoor footwear.
  • Appropriate clothing - if in doubt bring another top, you can always leave it on the minibus.
  • Don't forget your camera and/or binoculars.
  • Sunscreen and a hat.

Itinerary details change from time to time when attractions open or close or when we think of ways to improve the tour so if there is something you particularly want to experience please contact us to make sure it will be part of the tour on the day that you travel.
